Ammonia education

Howdy all...still dealing with this issue. Got to thinking which could be a dangerous thing for me. Since there are no longer fishies in this tank, I am curious if it would help things along it I were to swap the HOBs from another tank where I am currently running two. The other HOB is TopFin30 though. I would move the whole thing, media and all over to the 10g. I would then take the (TopFin10) and clean it up, replace the media and put it on the tank where the 30 came from to reseed it.

Would that be a waste of time or might that help the situation out?

What kind of substrate are you using. I know that there are some that have ammonia in them to help cycle a tank. ADA brands would be a good example.

When you treat with prime, the ammonia is still there even though its 'locked up' and no longer toxic. I think there is an issue with some test kits still showing the ammonia, but not sure.

Disregard, my last post. I didn't realize the tank was previously used.

Yeah, this is correct, I remember reading that tests will be inaccurate after using an ammonia treatment.
