I'm getting ready to setup a RCS tanks and was wondering what effect, if any, a level of 0.25 ammonia in my tap water would have on them when doing PWC after the tank is cycled.

I would use Prime to bind the ammonia to a non toxic form but still available to the bacteria.

Use prime or any other water conditioner that says it "removes" or "detoxifies" ammonia.
That'll take care of it nicely.

i would just do smaller more frequent wc's as opposed to large further apart wc's as well. Use prime and the nitrifying bacteria should take care of it once fully cycled.

I have the same problem and use prime and my shrimp are alive. not breeding (dunno what the reason is) but prime is wonderful.

I'm already using Prime on my other tank so I'll plan on continue using it on the RCS tank.
