I'm cycling a tank with fish and i was wondering what I can leave the level at? The level is at 2ppm. Do I have to keep the level at zero? :help:

Yes. Do some more water changes to lower it. Ammonia can cause long term damage to your fish. That's what's so har about fish cycling. You have to do lots of water changes. But with a little bit of patience it can be done :) Good luck

No you do not need to leave it at 0ppm this would be nearly imposible. You do not wont to add fish until the cycle is over you would just be signing their death certificate if you did. I sugest durring cycling with fish a 50% water change daily. This will keep your levels down a little. Only use hardy fish IE. Feeder gold fish as they are cheap and hardy and also usaly so cramped already thous being used to the high levels. Good luck and consider some sort of starter culter for your cycle.

Another good idea is to test your tap water every so often. I live in a city and the levels sometimes are 0ppm and most recently were 1.0ppm straight from the tap. Adding ammonia to your tank would not be helpful so it's best to know what exactly your adding.
Some declorinators also have different amounts you need to add for removing just chlorine or also chloramine. Make sure your adding enough to do both. (but too much will also remove oxygen from the H20 and suffocate them).

Keep doing partial waterchanges to get the ammonia down as close to 0 as possible, itll make the cycling take longer but less stress on the fish
