ammonia troubles from tap

This is incorrect. Most water treatment facilities are now using chloramine, not chlorine, and many others are switching permanently. It is thought that chloramine is more effective at rendering the water safe.

:bowing: Well, if he hasn't had these readings before, then I think it probably is correct in his circumstance. ;) And it's been true where I live. But, if it's a permanent change, that's good to know also.

Regardless, the main thrust of what I said is accurate (i.e., they had been using chlorine, but are now using chloramine). The remainder is tangential, but worth clarifying. :)

I know some one will correct me on this but most water supplies now use chlorimines because chlorine can mix with something in the water or pipes ( not sure don't remember what) and form a chemical substance known to cause cancer and birth defects.

I gather that's true, actually, based on the research I did after Roan's, uh, correction/clarification. Of course, there are other concerns with chloramines re: environmental pollution and the like, but it sounds like about 60% of water treatment now makes a practice of using chloramines, which has been a more than double rise in the last 2 or 3 years, and may well continue to rise. But, perhaps we will both be corrected momentarily... :D :sim:
