Getting an ammonia reading from the new 72 but not sure if I should believe the test kit. It's about 9 months old and Tetra says it should be good for a year but I don't know.

Will the fish show signs of distress in levels of ammonia? I assumed they would. They all look great though that's the weird part! No signs of distress, anxiety, suffering, etc.

I moved the filter pads from the old tank over and added all the decorations and plants from it as well. Also added more new plants.

IME the effects of ammonia don't show well until you get past 1-1.5 ppm, unless you are dealing with really delicate species. As you well know damage is done far below those levels. As far as the test kit, I'd verify it with an outside source (I usually take water to an LFS and see if it matches) IME test kits last longer than most people think, or maybe I've been lucky. I have never had one go bad with age, but any kit past a year old, I verify pretty regularly just to make sure. I currently have ammonia ph, and nitrite kits that are past 7 years old and still test the same as a new one. I use them but I don't trust them completely and wouldn't advise doing so.
