Hi everyone,

I've had my 20g tank running for 5.5 months now and everything is going great. The other night after my tank lights turned off and the moonlight turned on, I noticed little things scurrying across my LR. Upon closer inspection and doing a bit of research, I'm fairly sure they are amphipods, and there's a lot of them!

Everything I read said that they weren't really a pest, but I don't want the population to get out of control. Any ideas on how to do this? I've got two false percs and a flame angel, one emerald crab, and one coral banded shrimp, and a bunch of snails...no one seems interested in eating these things!

Thanks in advance for ideas/comments.

From what I understand 'pods are great detrivores and beneficial to the tank.

I suppose a dragonette (manderin, scooter, etc) would consume them (might wipe them all out, actually). It's probably best just to let the 'pods be.

Yeah that's what i figured. as long as my LR doesn't become a writhing mass of them at night I guess it's all right.

Yeah pods are fine and you really can't have "too" many of them, they will thin themselves out / multiply as a food source presents itself. I had an ich outbreak in my main tank, so I took all my fish out. Over the weeks pods built up to the point that I could had a cubic inch of shrimp to the tank and it would be gone in 24 hours. 48 hours of adding the fish back, pods were almost all gone lol.
