Amusing clown loach story...

I have a UGF and have been running both jet heads in my 29 gallon aquarium together because of ich treatment. One head is set to aerate. I got home last night and I see a tail protruding from one of the jet heads. I thought OH NO a loach killed himself! Wondering just as quickly how he got in there against the current, into that TINY hole... I pull the head out of the riser tube, and the loach simply floats out and is obviously still alive. Alive, good. What shape he was in, I didn't know. We go to dinner, I didn't turn the heads back on since I wanted to make sure they weren't malfunctioning first. We get home. I see a tail protruding from the head again. I tap the head until the loach backs out of it and swims off. Then I see it... A snail on the inside of the riser tube. I couldn't believe it but I am sure that is what he was after...

I ran UGF's years ago in a 75g tank - some of the smaller clown loaches would go down the lift tubes and disappear under the plates for several days at a time...they would reappear, fat and happy!

Absolutely! They gobble them right up! So do the yoyo loaches. The clowns get big though, so if you're serious make sure your tank is big enough.

My bf just bought me a very large apple snail and I already have 4 small yoyo loaches in my tank....are they going to give the snail any problems? Or will they leave him alone since he is so big?

I have heard some people say they don't bother the big snails, but I don't have any personal experience. I believe that my yoyos would at least try to take down a big snail, and I think my clowns would, after witnessing last night's behaviour!

I saw the yoyos cleaning his shell but i didnt think anything of it. I hope they leave him alone cause he is very neat. I would hate to have to get rid of him. :sad:

well i may very much get some i have a snail problem
will they be compatible with,
3 peppered cories
17 baby neons about the size of a finger nial
a juvinile angle
4 zebra dainios
a pair of guppies
in a mildly planted 20 gal?

ok how about when they reach fulll grown neons which shouldnt be long, can i then put them in?
