An important reminder

Hi everyone,

Tonight I had a very close call while doing tank maintenance with my heater which could have:

A. Cost me my sight

B. Burned down my house

C. Both

So please, take the time and be extra careful. After a while, doing water changes, etc. a couple times a week, we start to become lazy and complacent. Maybe we don't bother to unplug the filter, or be careful about a loose rock, or don't use a drip cord, or even unplug and secure the light fixture. After a hard day's work, or a week of water changes to get rid of algae or keep your ph in check, we can act dangerously because we think we can take short cuts.

But please, take the extra time to do things RIGHT. After all, we are dealing with electricity, glass, chemicals, water, heavy objects and live fish, all of which can be dangerous alone or mixed together.

Remember to please take all safety precautions and don't be like me and wait for a close call to learn.

heres a tip for any one who is lazy like me! you all might already do this but hey some may not know it, i use a power bar the kind with the breaker strip and before doing anything to my tank i flip the switch, that way i don"t have to unplug anything but the current is off at least ...now if your cleaning filters ect, i still recomend unpluging them and likewise if you are doing an extremely large or messy job ..but alteast it helps to get in a routine of hitting that breaker!...sorry to hear about your accident zabok80, and i am glad you survived with no serious damage!
