I am having an outbreak of Cyanobacteria. My tank inhabitants are in my signature. I usually run my lights for about 10-12 hrs a day. How much time can i cut back with out hurting anything in my tank?

I run mine 9 hours/day. I also had the start of a cyano outbreak this week. I was able to contain it with Chemi-Clean and a 20% water change with sand vacuuming after the treatment. I see no cyano now.

Try RED SLIME REMOVER, its great. I had to use it a couple of times but it looks as though my cyano is gone. I have also decreased the feedings to only twice a week. And my lights are on 16 hrs a day on a 75gal FOWLR.

Cyano is more about excess nutrients and low water flow and not much to do with light cycle. Increase flow, water change to reduce nutrient levels and the bloom should die out. Old bulbs should be replaced as well, old bulbs shift to the red spectrum and can cause hair or green algae outbreaks.
