I noticed this morning after doing a water change the male Anablep attempting to breed with the female! At least I now know he is a right handed male, so if her opening opens to the left and not to the right, they could produce offspring in time! I think they are still too young, and he needs to learn a little better aim :) but I'm very excited they are happy enough to start thinking about reproducing. Still on the hunt for more girls....hopefully someday soon!
 
Awesome, I don't know anything about breeding these guys, what kind of process does it follow?

Also, do you think one of these would do ok in a 75gal with an atlantic mudskipper?
 
They are Livebearers so is kind of similar to Mollies, Platies, etc. The BIG difference is they are "handed", meaning their equipment can only go one way. Some males are left handed which means their part can only go sideways to the left, the the reverse is true for right handed. Then if that is complicated enough, the female's opening has a hinge, which either opens to the left or the right. So left handed males have to breed with right handed females and right handed males have to breed with left handed females.

I'm not sure about Skippies and Anableps, mine did fine for the past couple of months but have recently started picking on one another (the Skippy would jump from his post and bite their backs or fins) so I just seperated mine cause the Anableps weren't looking as happy as previous. So mine didn't work, doesn't mean they won't work but my Skippy and Anableps didn't play well together :(. Anableps are really a schooling fish too which is why I'm trying to find more, but I just can't find them right now :(
 
Cool, thanks for the info. If they're better off in schools, I wouldn't want to try and cram a school into a 75, so I'll just stick with a mudskipper.
 
They are happy in schools, I just got an email back from a wholesaler, and he said the Anableps are coming into season soon, I can't wait!!!! I am looking to add four new girls and then within 6 months will upgrade to either a 125 or 180g for the school!
 
Congrats! I ordered some last week and out of the 5 that arrived, only one arrived alive :(. I got credit on the others but it was still so sad to see dead Bleps :(! Somehow between WI and AZ they got really cold (water temp of 65) and probably started stressing as they all had really bloody lips and gills, the one girl that made it is making a full recovery though! Did you get a male or a female? Anyway congrats and hope you can get it some friends ;)
