Hey all, after a year and a half of not visiting (sorry, MANY life changes!), it is great to see the Brackish forum so busy! Anyway now that my life has settled down enough to enjoy my little Brackish friends again, I have gotten back into keeping Brackish with Anableps. I had thought they were gone from the hobby as even though I haven't kept fish in quite awhile I would always check out the fish stores and would never ever see them. I set up a Brackish tank anyway cause I at least wanted to get back to keeping Mudskippers and BBG's and Knight Gobies. Anyway, I went down to a fish store in Tempe a few weeks ago and they had just received a shipment of 5 of them, lucky for me the brackish tank has just finished cycling so bought a male and a female (I was shocked they actually had a male, usually can be hard to find). Anyway does anyone else keep the Anableps (four-eyed fish)? I'm SO happy to have them back in my life, they are so much fun and SO personable! Anyway hope all is well with everyone and sorry for being gone for so long!

Wow cool, good to have you back! I would like to see some pics of these guys. I looked into getting one at one point, but as at the time I was dealing with a 40gal tank, I opted for a mudskipper instead. They are definitely some bizarre and interesting creatures though.

I currently have them in a 40 Breeder, as the house I am in I am only renting so can't set up a big tank, but there is a very real possibility of moving within 6 months, definitely within a year! As soon as I get a more permanent house will be setting up a 125G for them. They are currently just babies at about 2.5-3 inches They are probably my most favorite fish in the world, so odd and SO personable, everytime I put my hand/finger/whatever in the water they are attacking it looking for food like little Piranha :). Below are the pics of the tank and then of the Bleps. The only one that will hold still long enough for a picture is the male, so the male is the one in most the pics!

Do they spend a fair amount of time perched out of the water like 'skippers, or do they mainly just cruise the surface?

Thanks for the comments! They spend all their time in the water, no perching. I remember from the ones I kept years ago that if you have ornaments just below the surface that they can rest on they will, but they won't come out of the water like the Skippies. Will hopefully add a little Skippy in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!

Congrats! They are awesome fish, but I have yet to find any for sale in my area. Nice find :headbang2:

Definately post more pics when you get the mudskipper too.

Thanks all! They are still doing great! It was sad though as I returned to the place I bought them and the other 3 were gone, so I asked the guy when they would get more as I want to get a little school of them. He said they didn't make it cause it is hard to ship into the Arizona heat, yada yada yada. I bought the two I have before they were ready to sell, they were treating them for something and were only midway through the treatment but they looked fine to me so decided to try them (plus if I remember correctly Anabelps aren't a big fan of meds anyway) and I have had absolutely no issues with them at all. At the time I didn't want to overload the tank with 5 Anableps at once but maybe I should have. Who knows, hopefully they will get more in at some point so I can get my school. Also the time I was there the Mudskipper was on hold for someone else so as soon as they get another one I will get some new pics of the Bleps with their Mudskippy friend!
