mine is growing really tight leaves. not very big or spaced apart, I have them in a 5.5 gallon with just about 3 wpg lighting I have them in with 2 adult guppies and some babies. going to be moving them to a 10 gallon next week, but my end question is does Anacharis flower or will that be just fine for the growth of it. I have some fertilizer that I dose once a month about 4 or 5 drops. I dont remember what they are. if you need/want to know I'll post again after I grab it (at library not home) thanks

I'm curious to know if you have any algae? 3 wpg is a lot of light if you are not supplementing CO2. To my knowledge, anacharis does not flower. Anacharis is also a nutrient absorber. If there are not enough nutrients in the water, it will probably stunt the plants growth.
I believe there is a cooler water version of Anacharis (used in ponds) that does flower, however, I don't think it's the kind usually sold for warm water aquariums.
The Egeria that I have in my tank doesn't seem to flower, it just keeps growing along the surface (like crazy, I should add).
I suspect your leaves are tight together because you're getting a lot of light to the plant. High light will result in short distances between nodes, the plant is trying to maximize the amount of area it has through the water column to photosynthetize, to take advantage of all the light. If you've got less light than the plant would like, you get long, leggy growth as the plant uses its nutrients to shoot up towards the light to get its upper leaves into better lighting.

But anacharis/Elodea does flower in tanks. Not constantly and certainly not showy, but it does produce a tiny little white flower at the water surface. It does need to well established to do so - preferablely not very well groomed - in other words it rarely does so in my tanks, but does so much more often (but still not routinely) in my veggie filters.
