They generally take up about the same amount of room as a HOB power filter, so if your tank is right up against the wall, then yes you'd have to move it. There are also a number of different methods that reduce or completely eliminate the sounds caused by typical overflow boxes.

I agree that you should just leave the anemone be. It isn't uncommon for a strong stressor to cause them to regurgitate their food, especially if they recently ate. You should always match parameters on new sythetic seawater as best as possible. Until you get a sump, take some extra precautions when doing a water change.
