Well, another post here. I bought some more live rock when I went to the store today, and one of the pieces had an anenome on it. It is around .5" in diamater. I took a picture of it but I don't know how to post pics on this site. Anyway it has a lime green center with brownish tentacles. It also has a light brown base on it. Does anyone know what kind of anenome it is - I was pretty excited (my first hitchiker).

Also how long do you let rock cure for? I believe it was cured rock that I bought, but I don't want to add it yet b/c of die off. I don't want to wait too long though, b/c I just have it in my 10 gal tank which just has regular little 15 watt bulbs for lights. I don't want the "cool" stuff to die off while I wait, but I don't want spikes. Well thanks for all the help, i was pretty excited....:D

Green center?

It could be a Green button pulop..

other than that it could be an Apasitia.. and if so you want to remove it.. they spread like wild fire.. and are troublesome

Apitasia??

What is apitasia, and why don't i want it? It looks just like a little anenome though, with the lime green center and brownish tentacles. It has worked itself down into a little ravine under the light, he looks really cool.....

I'm not sure if it's Aiptasia, as they are mostly transparent w/very little coloration. The reason they are undesireable is that they can spread quite rapidly and have a very potent sting that can devastate nearby corals.

Are the tips of the tentacle bulbed? If so, it may be a Psuedocorynactis sp. Basically a mushroom/anemone "combo." Not harmful at all, and when they form colonies look very cool.

My guess would be an Anemonia manjano, another type of anemone that is also considered a pest like Aiptasia. Although these guys are more colorful. The ones I've seen have colors just like you described. Kinda green in the middle w/brown tentacles.

Fishbait, THANK YOU! I've got some of those Psuedocorynactis in my tank and I've looked EVERYWHERE to try and ID them... I love you man =)

Heya RaVen:

Been there! I found one of these things in my tank a year ago and looked high and low for what it was. A friend of mine was trying ID some other "anemone" and these things were on that page. So do yours hide from light too? I thought that was the most bizzare thing, it appears to be a cryptic animal. Cool though :)
