This is fascinating! I had a male and a female angel in 37 high for months. I just switched females (one female was in a 55 long). The female in the 37 laid eggs a couple of time with no fertilization. Then no more eggs for months and months. The female in the 55 kept laying eggs with no hope of fert (no male angel in the tank). I decided to swap them about a week ago.
The newly introduced female (Ethel) laid her eggs today in the 37. The male (Diablo, yes he’s black) did his thing and is now guarding the eggs.
She continues to lay eggs and he continues to glide over them in what, I assume, is the fertilization movement.
They are the only fish in the tank.
I am enchanted with the dances they are performing. He nudges her. She noses up. He is closely guarding the eggs. She swims over as if to check them out.
I will be leaving the tank lights on tonight to help them take care of the eggs.
Just incredible watching them do their thing! Whatever happens with this “clutch”, it has been amazing watching them!

Congrats,

Angels are very entertaining to watch during the spawning period. We have a number of pairs breeding and I love to sit and watch they will come to the front of the tank and shake at me after they have laid their eggs. They become very aggressive when you get near their eggs . We do 50% Daily WC's on all breeder tanks when we vac out they chase the siphon or nip my hand if it come close to their eggs. All in all if you have never experienced something like this you do no know what your missing.

Boo hoo. Overnight they ate the eggs. Better luck next time.
