my angels laid eggs again, so i pulled them out and put them in a ten gallon with a spomge filter and a airstone and heater. I kept the water the same as the tank they came from. I treated with methylene blue and in 24 hours they will all dead. I even tried to pull the dead ones off with a eye dropper and that didnt help. Is it possible that i over treated the methylene blue? can that be done? the temp in the tank is 80, is that too warm maybe? also they didnt have any light at all after i took them out. I need advice, i really wanna raise angels and so far im 0 for 2.:1zhelp:

Its def not the heat- I raise mine at 82. the eggs do not need any light. You can hatch them in the dark

Its possible the methyl blue was overdosed.. but more likely is the eggs weren't fertilized. This can be from inexperience of the male, infertility, or a TDS that is too high (is your water really really hard?)

i cant say for sure if its a actuall pair or 2 females, ive never seen them spawning. im havent tested the hardness of my water either. i just use tap water and its ph is 7.6 thats as far as i know

I'm thinking that this was just a poor spawn. You did note that you're not sure if this is a true male and female pair so I guess the best possible thing is to let them spawn again -- leave the eggs in the tank (the pair or one of them will fan the eggs) and if you have fertile eggs the next time around, remove them then. Good luck! :)

Agree that it's mostly likely a bad spawn, especially if they are a young pair. There is nearly zero chance that they're both females if there are other angels in the tank and they naturally paired (unless of course you have all females in your tank). But if they are the only two and they are of breeding age, it's possible.

I also agree with Stargazer53...let the pair hatch out the next spawn. I used to let my pairs care for the eggs and as soon as I saw wrigglers, I'd siphon them out with a turkey baster. Saved me from having to care for the eggs and the
fry usually came out in one big glop :). Good luck

there are 4 angels all the same age in the tank. Im going toi try to catch them spawning nexttime so i can tell if it is a m/f pair or not. that was only the 2nd time they spawned too.

Or let the parents take care of the eggs until the eggs start wiggling. No guessing at that point.

If there is a male in the tank- which is very likely with 4 of them- the females won't spawn together. I've only ever heard of that behavior in a tank with just females, and even then its very uncommon.

Do you know how hard your water is? or if your house has a water softener? I ask because if ALL of the eggs turned white within 24 hours, I am not convinced its just inexperience- he couldn't have missed ALLL the eggs, ha ha. I agree, leave the eggs with them for the first 24 hours or so. They should be able to hold off their tank mates for at least that long. Let them do the hard work at least until you know if the eggs are fertilized.

time will tell.
or watch them when they spawn next time.
check the ovipositors the males will be thin, the females thicker and blunt.
they are actually easy to tell apart.
this is the only solid way to ID males/females.
