Angel fish and other fish

Off hand does angel fish do ok with lyre-tail mollies (dalmation and creamsicle). i am shooting for 3-4 angelfish, a gourami or two, my two old mollies and a pl*co, (or do a small 5-6 school of fish , instead of gouramis) :confused: all in planning so any help is good , and appreciated. but i would like 3-4 assorted angels to be my cornerstone of the 55 gal tank. **** mts barely got the 10 running and now im eyeing that space in the living room for the perfect 55 gal. All i have been told be LFS, and this petsmart near me is rather stupid, is not to mix the angelfish with barbs or pink kissing gouramis, but regular (non-dwarf) gouramis are ok :confused:


I would like to move the mollies to the 55 gal and maybe add my beta to this tank with the platy and gouramis, im not to worried about fin-nipping since my mollies had beautiful full lyretails :D that would complete my ten gal :D

it depends on how big the angels are - if you get them as juveniles and raise them with your fish they are less likely to see them as a snack when they are older.
 
I don't understand what you are saying about the ten gallon. :( sorry, i read it a few times.
I can only add that bettas and gouramis together might fight.
and two questions: are you sure you can fit three or four angels in a tank that size? From what i have read there can also be agression problems depending on what mix of genders you have.

Can they be kept in the same tank - possibly, but I wouldn't. Angels prefer a slightly acidic soft water and mollies prefer a slightly alkaline hard water preferably witrh some salt. While mollies can tolerate less than ideal water conditions my expereince with them is they tend to be subsceptible to illness, which they then spread to their tankmates, when the water is not slightly hard and alkaline.

Having said that I'm sure people will argue with me and say they keep them together succesfuly. Mollies can be pretty tough that's why they have often been used to cycle tanks. In fact they may survive any illness they contract but the tankmates might not.

no pleco at the moment but i would like to add a rubber lip (i think they only get 6 inches or so i read), 3-4 angels in a 55 gallon seemed ok to my logic but wanted to see what others had to say, the point about the 10 gal was this move the mollies into with angels, I was hoping for one male and three female angels, heard that 1-2 angels was too few and 5-6 too many , and told to get 4 so i am just seeing what others on here whose opinion i trust more have to say

Mollies can go with angels but the angels will eat all the babies. Mollies and platies are perfect tankmates, guppies and swordtails too. With some cories and oto catfish u could leave the babies in with the other fish and most would survive. Right now you have too many fish in the 10 gallon. Platies and mollies can be kept in the ten gallon but they eat a lot, are fat fish and produce a lot of waste. A 29 gallon is better for them. Remember to do two females to every male when dealing with livebearers like mollies and platies.

Kissing gourami get big and barbs will nip the angel's fins. Angels can be kept with dwarf gourami (fight over food sometimes and I don't like them together). You can have a group of angels, if u see any aggression, remove some or just the aggresive one. Sometimes they pair up and get aggresive, if thats the case then I'd keep the pair. But usually u will have a dominant angel but they wont be too agressive to eachother. Tetras are good with angels. I ahve cardinals and rummy nose, oto catfish and cories. You can have any number of angels. I find they do best in groups of at least two.

Mollies/platies like the opposite water that angels do. Angels like warmer (80-82 degrees) water and soft acidic conditions, as do tetras. Mollies and platies like hard alkaline water and can take cooler temps. But playing with water chemistry is messy and its best to go with how you tap is naturally in terms of hardness and PH. In that case u could do mollies, platies, and angels in a 55 gallon.
