i have a black veil angelfish, no idea what gender it is, if i get a koi angelfish and it happens to be the same gender as the one i have, will they be likely to fight?

thanks

if they are of different sizes, the bigger one will probably kill the other one, if they are the same size, its all up to the individual fish, and thier personalities more than gender that will decide wether they get along

how big is their tank?

37 gal.

the only real way to tell is to put the angels together.

generally angels tend to do okay in pairs or groups..tho not really a schooling fish they will group up and establish a pecking order.

it's best if they are raise together as youngsters..but I have mixed angels with good success in the past.

has anybody else had good sucess mixing angels?

ive got a shoal of 6 in my 90, and i dont have any problems, except when one of the twins scuffle over dominence, but it really is just when they make themselves look bigger than they are, and it rarely ends in a "fight," and then again it is usually a few pecks, thats all. the rest co-exist fine.

is your tank long or tall? either way, the angles should fight alot even if one iis a bit bigger than the other. if one is full sze though, and the other is puny, then there could be problems. in a longer tank, there is more room for them to steak yout terretories.

if you introduced them at the same time, you shouldnt have any problems once they find their terretories, because they will know where each others is and then they'll just leave each other alone. they might also become best buds and become unsperable, but it all depends on the personality of the fish. if you introduced them at seperat times, you could be in for a fight, because the one that has been in there could have possibly already clamied his territory

i added a koi angel and regular angel and my established angel is only bothering the regular angel and by bothering i mean breifly chasing/trying to nip every so often

IMO you should have only added one other angel, not 2. The aggression could just be temporary until everyone settles in more, but it could also mean that you may have a pair....in which case, the 3rd wheel so to speak will be harrassed to the point where you will need to remove him otherwise the other will kill him. When angels pair, they will protect their area to the death no matter what size the tank...unless the loner learns to stay away, but in a 37 gallon there really isnt any place for him to keep to himself.
