My tank is ready to stock (33gal), so I phoned my LFS to see what they got in with their new order. They told me about some angels they got that are black on the back half of their body, and silvery on the front half. Does anyone recognize this type, and if so, could you tell me a little about them?
I need something compatible with fish types like harlequin rasboras, cherry barbs, serpaes, rosy tetras, danios, etc. I'll be going to the LFS tomorrow, but would like to know first if these angels are a good idea.
Also, anyone heard of purple passion danios?
Thanks for any info.

Not sure what the name for those is. As for companions my serpaes and angels are great together, the serpaes are to big for the angels to eat and they never nip the angels fins. I'm guessing the puple passion danios are pearl danios ( Brachydanio albolineatus) which are really nice looking, peaceful, and are also fine with my angels and serpaes.

I've seen them before, but don't know their name. It might be kind of difficult stocking them in a 33 gallon though. I am not sure of the dimensions that you have, but angels can be kind of territorial.

My tank is 36x12x 18H. I wasn't sure if they angels would be ok in that size tank, either. I'm sure they're small and the LFS will tell me I should get three ;) .
I'll try to get their name and research them.

The purple passion danios are apparently a 'little broader than zebras'. She said they have a natural purple hue under lights. When I see them tomorrow, I'll check them out and see if they're pearls.

Thanks for the info.

Sounds exactly like pearls to me. Mine sat in a low tank at petsmart since before I started working there. If they had not been in such a crappy tank they would have gone fast . They are most definatly my favorite danio by far. If you do end up with them you wont be disappointed!

Sounds great! If they are pearl danios (disguised under the other name), I will be getting some, they need to be in groups like other danios, don't they? I also have one zebra and one leopard danio in my other tank that I want to move over. Will they swim with the pearl's?

I'm going to pass on the angel's for the simple reason that I don't know how big they'll get and I don't want to have problems later on. I'll instead stick with danios, harlequin rasboras, cherry barbs, serpaes, maybe some rosy tetras, and of course some cories.

the angels described are a color strain called half black where the rear portion of the fish is black but the front is the regular silver striped like the wild fish are. they should get the same size as regular angels

getting to be 9-12 inches top to bottom and about 6-8 inches total length fins all included...

9-12" high...

I think I'll have to pass! And you hit the nail on the head, SnakeIce. I went and saw the angels today, and they're exactly as you describe them. Very attractive, but...........too big, eventually. They're only dollar size right now.

I'll stick to my nice community tank, and yes, those danios are pearl. The names the LFS come up with! And the funny thing is, they have leopard danios and guess what they're calling them? Yup, pearl danios. At least they have the zebras correctly named!

Anyway, thanks a million for the help identifying these critters. As this isn't the right area for asking about stocking levels, I've started a new thread in freshwater, as I don't want to overstock.

right Snake, these are half-blacks and are a very pretty strain of Angels in my opinion..... There is no such thing as mini-angels in the FW world so if anyone were to say it was so would be steering you only to buy fish for your tank. A 33 gallon would be ok for 2.... but 2 with a few cories only maybe, otherwise the tank would be overstocked. I would stick to 40 and up for Angels.
