Angel Introduction Problems.. Advice

I have a 16 gallon bowfront that had an angel in it gowing out. I bought a 45 gallon tank to house the angel because he was definitly outgrowing the small tank. (I was planning this). So i got the 45 set up and have a small angel 5 Harlequins, and 4 rummies. Tonight I moved the bigger (1 yr old) angel into the tank. At first it just kind of sat in one side, but after about 20 mins it started chasing the smaller angel all over the tank.
My question is.. Will this slow down or are they just instantaniously not going to get along? Im scared for the younger fish!! :help2:
Should I move the smaller angel to the small tank until it grows out a bit?

Update.. I moved the juvenile angel out of the tank into the smaller tank until I figure out what to do. I realize that there are gong to be some fights but this amount of chasing just surprised me. Maybe I jumped the gun by moving the smaller one out?

Yes. angels will develop a pecking order..but you will need to watch them and make sure the one that gets picked on has places to hide.

in some instances the aggressor may not allow the other angel in..so keep a watchful eye out.
this problem is more common with males.

especially if you have a dominant male..I have one of those and it ain't pretty...he chased out 3 other angles..all of which turned out to be males.
this one my turn out to be one of those monster fish.(for an angel)
 
would you suggest picking up another small angel and introducing 2 new ones to the big aggressor?
 
you can do that.. but place them in the smaller tank and qt them for a few weeks.. this will allow any health problems that might happen to not affect the main tank.
also I usually run anti parasite meds on new angels.

by having two to add it helps spread aggression,,but on the flip side..it increases the chance of a pair forming.
 
If your one year old angel has been alone the whole time, you may or may not be able to add another angel especially if its smaller, it'll just be too aggressive, use to its independent territorial life and may or may not like a new comer, so just let the other 1-2 grow depending on what you choose and see how they interact, i have 2 angels now i introduced the 2nd a month after the first and the first is slightly larger and chases the younger slightly smaller one around if the smaller one comes into my older ones 'territory' but normally won't try to exert dominance on the younger one and my tanks only a 10 gal -the older one is bout 3 inches with fins the younger about 2.5 inches with fins (i'm going to upgrade them to my 30 soon, don't worry everyone)
 
you will generally see more aggression issues in smaller tanks..there is no place to hide in there.

larger tanks with cover will allow the less aggressive angel to seek shelter.

remember when chosing a larger tank opt for more height withangels.. I find the std 29 is taller than the std 30
