Angel safe tetras

I keep Emperor Tetra with an Angel. They are quite large for Tetra, and have awesome colors. The Emperor's were a bit nippy when I first put them together, but I have no issues keeping them in the same tank now.

Rummynose, they don't nip at anything, my betta often sleeps in the middle of them.

I keep a school of lemon tetra with my angels no problem. Rummynoses will work too as long as they are full grown and your angels aren't too big. I've also kept bloodfins with my angels; I never had a problem but I've heard/read they can be nippy.

I think it depends on the individual Angels. I heard mixed things about Cardinals- online and in the store. One guy at the store said he had Angels that ate every Cardinal in the tank overnight, another guy said he never had a problem.

So I cautiously bought 8 (I eventually want a larger school but wanted to see what happened) and added them to my adult breeding pair Angels.

It's been almost a year, and every single "delicate" cardinal tetra is still alive and swimming. The angels ingnore them too. I'm having a hard time finding more though lol.

However, the high-bodied Flame tetras that are supposed to be fine with angels- they are not so bright and antagonized them and I have lost 3 so far, I suspect angel-inflicted injuries as cause of death.

Congos! They are beautiful.

The tank is only 29gal so I think congos and silver dollars are much too big. I'm leaning towards lemons or pristellas. All depends on what I find at the LFS.

IMO--Both are good choises. I have cardinals with my angels and my angels are very big (so are my cardinals). They have been together for 5 years, so they are use to each other.

This is 100% true, several people have posted in this thread that you cannot keep angels with neons. I kept a large (5"+) male angel with half a dozen neons for months with no issues at all. Sadly, the male angel died after a female took his eye out, and a 3 day power outage killed all but 1 of the neons.

I now keep a pair with a dozen black neons, no issues there, also never had an issue with them and rummynose tetras.

Figures, once I finally decide on something, my husband pipes in and says he wants to do something different in the tank. UGH. At least he's taken an interest I guess, lol!
