Angel tank question

The funny thing star is that there is no other angel in the tank! She staked out her territory, laid her eggs and guarded them ferociously. Poor dear. When my husband had reached the end of his patience, I reached in and shook the silk plant. Eggs everywhere - feeding frenzy time - now the angel is fine and even my dwarf gourami can push her around a bit!

 cathy I have seen two females try to spawn..

I think angels just get weird sometimes..might have to do something with the water :coffee:

Can't you add some filter media from an established tank to the 75g? I have not cycled a tank in the traditional sense since my very first one. Transfer some media, and you can stock lightly right away, no problem.

mooman, I moved some media from my ac 70 to the 75..there are danios in the tank now.

lastnight when I tested(testing everyday) I notice a slight climb in the ammonia the color was just slightly leaning to lt green but not quite there<.25 i read it.
. 0 nitrites and nitrates at 10-20..tested tap for nitrates and found 10 in the tap..could be cross contamination on that one tho so I'll retest.
I thought about moving some angels but was afraid of the slight ammonia reading.

I mat take a scoop of gravel(ugf in the55) from the 55 and hang it in the 75 tonight too. might see about moving an angel or two over tonight also. any thoughts?

Frankly I'm suprised your seeing any ammonia at all with seeded filter media, and only 6 danios in there. I would put the gravel in an old stocking and put it in contact with the new filter media (upstream of it if possible)

I was a bit surprised myself but ???

I'll grab some media and put in front of the drain on the wet/dry sump..it'll get sucked in and drop on the floss and bioballs.

I'm checking the readings again tonite.

thanks

i would not put two angels in anything less than a 29. if they are a pair--which angels form rather easily--then you really need a 55. IMHO. Breeding conditions and general and/or community tank conditions are two different things in my mind.

the pair will be in the original tank(55 gallons) the others are getting moved to a 75 gallon.

I know lots of people(breeders) who put their pairs in 20 talls, bare bottom breeding tanks.
these of course get regular water changes some even set up on drip tanks.

but I would personally prefer a 30 minimum or a 40 for a breeder set up you could let them rear the young in those tanks :)
