As my angel gets bigger he is slowly getting more brown covering his body, he started off mostly silver, got some brown coloring at the top, and slowly this brown is spreading over him. I am pretty certain this is normal, just wanted to check and post some pictures.

He is also becoming more aggressive the bigger he gets, when trying to take pictures today he charged the camera, and is also far more aggressive towards the female he shares a tank with. He also has the tell tale lump on his head that I have read can aid sexing angels.

The 1st pic is from June, 2nd from August and 3rd from today (a bit dark as I need to replace a bulb).

yes, it is typical for some angels to exhibit the brown coloring.. my Wild Scalare will do this.. it seems to have more to do with mood for mine.. tho single males tend to remain more silver. when exposed to either another male or female they may tend to show more brown with low light.

the hump on the forehead is not a sexing rule set in stone as females can also exhibit this trait.

Maybe this is how it is with mine, one lightbulb being out is putting less light over the tank, and he is in there with a female, maybe just the combination of the 2 is making the brown appear more so than usual.

I just wish I could get him to calm the aggression towards the female a little. They have not spawned for a while (since I moved house) and with another house move coming up think it could be a while longer. Maybe this is the cause of the aggression increase.

he's ready she's not....yup this may cause aggression with the male.

Anything I can do about it? or just wait it out? And hope that she is ready again soon, she clearly fills with eggs every couple weeks.

I have also been adding plants to their tank (took out all the fake ones and added real) so I guess this could also be affecting them as their surroundings are changing.

Keep a watchful eye out.. the male could hurt the female. i have had to do interventions on 2 pairs in the last year.. the females and males are just not a good match.

in both cases the males have bullied the females.

I have been watching them as close as I can, and I do worry that the male will hurt the female. The problem is outside of a tank divider there is not much I can do. I have another male in my 55G, but have already made the mistake once of putting the male from the pair back in there, I have debated putting the female in with the other male to see what happens, but not sure if that's a good idea.

Before the tank was moved they were spawning regularly, and there was no aggression between the two outside of the lip locking. I have also debated moving the male from the 55G into the 29G and moving the pair back into the 55G, but the whole point of me moving them to the 29G in the first place was because how aggressive they were to everything in the tank when spawning.
