Just got my angel tonight! need to know everything you know about angels

TY

As far as determining their sexes is concerned, it is not very easy. You'll have to be very observant of their ovipositors when they spawn. And just to add, these will eat any fish that will fit in their mouths such as neon tetras.

Make sure you feed it a good variety of food, especially protiens.

Also, if you intend on keeping a group of Angels, you would be best to add them all at the same time. Less likely to have aggression issues if they are introduced together.

angels are not much different than many other SA Cichlids to keep.
the temps of the water they prefer varies from 74-84 degrees.
you will need to find out which temperature your angels prefer. I find that 80 seems to be where they are most comfortable for my area.
there are 3 species ,to date, of know angels.Altum, Scalare and leopoldi.
the most common is the Scalare..it also has the most color variations and is commonly domestically bred.
Altum is the largest of the angels and commonly hit 10-12" tall. Scalare are next and can get as tall as 10"(some cases even taller) the leopldi is the smallest attaining heights of 6-7"
they are omniverous with a preference for meaty foods(protein) they will devoure veggie too ..
they can get fairly large and if properly maintained can get down right large. so they need fairly large tanks.. a minimum size to keep angels is 29 g..they are quite tall and as a result should be housed in tall tanks.

??????

when I do move him to my 55 gallon what can I keep with an angel?

you can keep larger tetras, BN's, other mild mannered cichlids like bolivian rams, keyholes, apisto's. hatchet fish(have a good cover on the tank)
