columbus, oh
well, i recently picked up a bunch of fish magazines off of someone and as i was sitting there reading them, i noticed that our tank was lacking something, some nice big fish. i have been doing all kinds of reading and i think i want to add some angelfish to my 75 gallon planted tank. i did have some additional questions a little more suited to my specific tanks.

in one of my magazines i was reading that angelfish have a tendency to make neon tetra disappear. so first is removal of incompatible fish. i have already moved my white clouds into the goldfish tank to clear up some room. i also have plans to move the neon tetra and the otos to new setups. will the danios and rasboras be ok? will the shrimp be ok? will a dwarf gourami be ok to add?

if there is any other information based on my sig or the questions above that you can give me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Well, from what I have seen and read, it will always come down to the individual personalities of the fish involved. The more hiding spots you have, the smaller your angels are at introduction and their genetics will determine the sucess.

For me, in general, most any fish, will eat another if the situation arises and their mouth is big enough. I have a tank where the angels and neons get along and one where they don't. Mainly a size difference from my standpoint.

My zebras and rasboras both sem to be doing OK with my neon eating angel. Its only the neons that seem to disappear once in a while. The few that are left must be the faster ones. The angel is starting to show signs of age so it may not be a real issue very much longer. It is easily 6 inches tall but looks like it has gone blind in one eye. It swims slightly cocked to one side to see around the tank better and always keeps that side facing into the tank so although there are no obvious lesions I have surmised the other eye does not work well any more.

Same question as jm posted. Your shrimp won't last very long with an angel.

they are espei rasbora and longfin blue zebra danio. i plan on getting the angelfish pretty small, so hopefully they wont mess with my shrimp too much. the only small shrimp are the cherry shrimp, the other ones are bigger than some of my fish.

will some small (like no more than 1 1/4" - 1 1/2") angelfish still mess with the shrimp?

I have semi-large (about 3" snout to base of tail) angels and neons and cardinals in my 100gal. My neons and cardinals are fairly large (had them for about 4-5 years). So far so good. I would not put shrimp in with angels though.
Try getting small angels and let them grow with the neons (thats what I did), your luck maybe better, and keep them well fed.

that sounds like a really good plan. the only problem is that i already have the shrimp (3 amano, 2 cherry and a blueberry) and they seem pretty impossible to catch without tearing the whole tank apart, which i am not willing to do right now. i think i am going to leave the neons in there since they are larger sized neons. i will be getting the angels as small as possible. would i be able to get 3 of the angels?

3 in the 75?
should be fine

as for the rest..hit and/or miss

angels are prone to eat anything they can fit in their mouths.
I have seen sub-adult angels try to eat 1.5" otocinclus.
