These are my Angels

fryangels.JPG

Last night I put my new moonlights I got for christmas on my tank. It looks great. It looks kinda like a spotlight.

Both my angels were under it last night while the other fish were still nervous about it. The angels were kissing! I swear.

This morning I woke up and there were eggs all over the fake broad leaf plant I have in there.

I transfered the leaf to the quarantine tank with a heater and an airstone.

Do the eggs look ok?

Should I have left them with their parents?

Aside from the white looking ones, there's clear ones. Kinda hard to see in the pictures. Is this normal?

I have the airstone in there to circulate the water and the heater is set at 78 degrees.

Aside from the moon light, I also got this awesome thing!

I don't have any angel/breeding experience, but I think it's going marvelous. I'm sure you can do some reading up and searches about what to feed fry, etc. Let us know how it goes.

You should have left them really, well thats what i did anyway lol. after a week or so you will see little tails developing. They should start wiggling at this point. THEN you should have taken them out.

the angels were most likely not kissing..they lip lock..the theory is a test the females uses to determine if the males is 'good' enough. it is generally done at or near time of spawning.

is this the first spawn? I was looking at the leaf and there only appear to be a few eggs. how long ago did they lay eggs..they may not have been done. generally they will lay a lot of eggs sometimes hundreds.

they eggs should be translucent..if they turn white they were either not fertilized or they got infected with fungus.
make sure you have an airstone under the leaf..the eggs need plenty of water circulation. the parents will generally fan the eggs. in about 3 days the eggs should hatch..these will be the 'wigglers' they will feed off the egg sac..in about 3 more days the wigglers will become freeswimmers.if they still have egg sacs they will feed off this..if not you will need to start feeding the freeswimmers..I use bbs..I created a bbs hatchery using a gallon jar, airstone and bribe shrimp eggs(decapsulated if you can get them) also salt(I use aquarium salt 2 teaspoons per quart) takes btween 24-48 hrs to hatch out bbs. so keep that in mind.

I find angel freeswimmers don't take to prepared babyfish food.
oh I forgot..you may want to add methylene blue to the water(available at lfs) with the eggs only . it is anti fungal cand can help to prevent fungus on the eggs.

this is it..kind of in a nutshell

I'm in the mood for love..... :)
Yeah listen to Star - he knows his stuff!

any update tj?

updates???

even if the spawn does not work out..they will be ready again in two weeks..and two weeks after that and so on and so on

you can practice your fish rearing skills..

Update:

The white eggs just sat unhatched and I think the airstone was on too high. The waterdrag under the leaf may have detached the clear eggs.

Next time I'll leave the eggs with the parents and perhaps move the community, or something like that.

On another sad note, the male died on Sunday. He had pop-eye and I may have stressed him by putting him in the QT after taking his fry from him.
He died the day I treated him with antifungal and antibiotic.

I'm really worried about the health of my tank now. I think I'll antifungus and clean the whole thing.

RIP Angel
