Angelfish Down !

I introduced a new angelfish to my quarantine tank yesterday. The QT already had 3 hatchet tetras and another angelfish (same size) for about a week. This morning I found the new angel dead. I scooped it out and took it to the store for a replacement. When I got back home, the older angelfish, that had been in the QT for a week was dead as well! All other fish seem fine.

QT is 10G, ph 7.2, Kh 3, NO3 <5, Ammonia 0, AC 20 filter and temp around 82. The angelfish were about the size of a full grown black skirt tetra.

Do you guys know what is going on? why this sudden affliction? Thanks

i've had pretty much the same experience with angels. tried to get small ones, so they would grow up with each other and not be as aggressive. went through 5 of them before i temporarily gave up. the longest one lasted a week.

there are a lot of crappy angels out there... (for example, the ones they sell at petsmart.. and a lot of other lfs). they are just bred like crazy because it's quick, easy money. if you want your angels to last, you pretty much have to find a reputable lfs, buy them bigger, and make sure they are as close as possible to wild-type. you might pay more for them, but IMO it's worth it.

do you have your NO2 reading?
what is the water change schedule on the quarantine tank?

there are some bad angels out there..but many of the generations of angels have been tank raised..and over time have actually become more hardy as a result..(not always the case)
sounds like you could have gotten an angel that was not all that healthy.

generally tho I believe that you should make sure your quarantine tank has clean water and frequent water changes.

Water change= 25% every 3-4 days.

I do think that the 'new' angel that I got may have been bad, since it died within hours and then took down the second angel a few hours after that.

I had thought that the first angel down was bad and when I went to replace it, I get a second one as well. When I cam eback home, I obviously found my oringinal angel (which had been in the tank for a week) down. LEts see if these two survive.
