I have an Idea!

What if all the people on this forum started an Angelfish egg exchange?

Here is how it would work.

We would put together a list of people who would be interested in participating in this experiment, You must possess a proven pair with a fertilization rate of at least 50% or higher. We would contact the next person on the list that our pair has successfully spawned and ship out the eggs no later than day 2 after they have been laid. This will give us plenty of time to get ready to receive the new eggs.

In 8 months we will post pics of the angels that we have exchanged.

This will allow us to keep our lines fresh while offering people the opportunity to access strains that are not found in their area.

I am looking for any other suggestions that you may have on this subject.

From the experiences of another forum, shipping wigglers has proven to have a better success rate. I'll be darned if I can find the topic, but I believe it involved using thermoses to ship. It was more of a swap sort of deal.

Yea , I read something like that awhile back, although I have already sent eggs 600 miles away and everything was fine and 80% have hatched.
I am doing some additional testing to find the best method of shipping and exchange. I used tap water no conditioner and oxygen and a bag buddy per liter of water, they were in transit for two days.

I will be trying the Thermos to see how that works this may not materialize until after the holidays as I want to have the process down to a science before we do it here while considering all variables possible.

If you can think of anything else I am open to suggestions.

If it's after the holidays I'm in. I had a busy summer, got a late start on pulling spawns, and pretty much slowed down on breeding. This is something I'm working to my advantage, fishroom upgrade with tanks being drilled, water lines being run, etc. Easy work with empty tanks.

only problem I have
my fish lay eggs on heater, powerheads and intake tubes

never on slate or cones..freaks i tell ya.

We had similar problems , solution to heater is turn it side ways, intake tube put a plastic mesh over it that is 1/8 to 1/4 size holes then make sure you have a slate near current .

Give it a try , if you need mesh let me know we have some extra lying around.

We are in the same boat , I just had 100 pcs of 1/4 glass cut and drilled so I can make our own tanks . We saved over 50% but we will have to assemble them. I made 10 jigs to hold the glass in place so all we have to do is insert the glass and silicone the seams. (I also made custom glass tops that work on tanks that are placed sideways on racks . This made things alot easier .

I will repost after the holidays so we can give this a whirl. I also have some other breeders interested.

Send me some pics of your new fish room when you get time ,I have the old ones saved somewhere.

We will do the same once we move into our new building.

Not until after the Holidays .

I will post a new thread when the time is right, we are undergoing an expansion so we can keep up with the demand for Angels and Discus. We will also explore trading Discus eggs or fry I am working on that as we speak.

Keep checking the Angel /Discus Category!!

Happy Holiday,
Nana&Pops
