Angelfish not acting as usual.

treat both but keep in mind angels are prone to a different protozoa that does NOT respond well to anything other than Levamisole or fenbendazole.
capillaria seems to be resistant to other meds..

How do you know what you are dealing with? I don't want to treat unnecessarily and she may not recover if I don't do something pretty soon. Is there a medication I can give that would cover the most probable cause? Or maybe several things at once? I don't want to do harm in the process.
And, thank you.......I appreciate all of the help. Without it she surely would not recover because I have never dealt with fish issues before.

i actually treat all new fish in QT with anti parasite meds.. prazi, metro and levamisole.(SOP)
technically I believe metro is an antibacterial but is effective against protozoa.

these meds are relatively safe to use.
other meds include fenbendazole, flubendazole

I do not usually treat for bacterial infections unless I feel it is one.

levamisole /levasole is best if found in the HCl formula. and may be available at feed stores.
levamisole Hcl should be used for 24-48 hrs then water change. and retreat in 2-3 weeks to kill of any new parasites.

if you have not tried metro yet..do as was posted earlier it is effective against other protozoa which may also be the issue.

Good luck! :)

Hey Star, do you do the worming procedure on locally bred & purchased fish you get in, or only wild caught species? I generally follow the same procedure with wilds, but not domestically bred & raised fish. Do you see any big advantages to doing this? I rarely have a problem with domestics without doing this.

I have the tank temp at 90. I will do another water change this evening. The female is not doing well at all. I don't think she is going to make it. The male was exhibiting symptoms this morning but seems to be doing better this afternoon. I hope they make it. I didn't know you could get this attached to a fish.
Question: Do I need to treat the rest of the fish in my 46g tank?

My female angelfish died, but the male is doing great. I fed him brine shrimp this morning and he ate agressively. I wanted to ask.....how long do I keep him in the quarantine tank and what is the process of moving him back into the 46g? I am continuing to treat and do the daily water changes. The tank temp is at 90. Do I need to treat the big tank also? I know I can't raise the temp but do I need to medicate? I have 4 mollies, 3 swordtail, 2 platy, 2 pleco and 8 fry. I haven't noticed any of the other fish exhibiting symptoms of parasites, but I don't want to put him back in the big tank and have him get sick again.
Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate your good advice!
