Angelfish Q?

Yes, all fish can, but more importantly what caused it? Until you identify and correct the issue that caused this, it will simply happen again, or the fins will not heal

FYI - Fish fins take a while to grow back especially for Angels - We are talking months for Viel Angels to grow completely back if they were removed completly.

I saved an old Angel and he had 50-60% fin loss. I am simply allowing him to regrow his fins on his own and uping his protien in his diet. I have had him for a month now. They have grown back maybe 1/2" already

it depends..most of the fin damage will repair..sometimes when the damage is extensive the fish may not grow 100% of it's fins back(particularly if anyh boney parts were extensively damaged)

normal teats etc will usually repair in a few days..extensive damage(ammonia burns etc) may take longer.

Thats great news. I had 2 little cichlids that decided to "play" with him. I took him out just in time. I initially thought he was sick but then I realized they just attacked him for no reason. His right fin was chewed up so he was having trouble staying upright. He appears to be doing much better now. Maybe you can recommend some food that may help?

I had two males fight once. There was only one pelvic fin on the one male when they were finished fighting, gone all the way up to where it meets the body of the fish. It never grew back.....but even so, he was a good daddy!!

I guess you can become attached to living things no matter how small

I originally wanted tiger barbs i think, which he told me were aggressive and I shouldnt mix. Then I asked about the cichlids and he told me that they weren't agressive at all..It's amazing to me that they can get employed without knowing anything. I know i'm a newbie but I dont like to see things die unnecessarily...I wish I had discovered this website before I decided to setup. I now have an empty tank...any suggestions?

it really depends on hich cichlids you keep with angels.
they do well with Flag(festivum) , keyholes(maronii) I keep them with discus too.(many don't recommend this but it works in large tanks..the angels are more agressive than discus in general..until the discus get adult sized)
you can also keep angels with dwarf cichlids like rams.(all these are cichlids)

keep in mind tho that cichlids will be cichlids..small angels may be targets for other fish..
