Angelfish shaking their ventral fins ?!

Sometimes my angelfish shake their ventral fins what does that means they are not fighting or kissing or anything just shake their ventral fins and sometimes their whole body what does that means?

I assume from the plural there is more than one, so this could be social interaction of some kind. Challenges, dominance, submission, displays, pre-spawning... Probably these are more likely, but another possible is disease or health issues.

honestly they probably just have an itch. my angelfish used to do that you're describing even when they were the only fish in the tank.

Pretty normal, I've seen mine do it a bunch of different times over the years. No worries.

Really seems to be a communication..mine tend to be in excitable or hyped up mood when they do it..shows urgency, I believe.

I do that sometimes when the kids don't get out of the bathroom fast enough.
