Angelfish

Hi;

I am a first time fish owner, and was also getting quite concerned about my 4 new baby angels that I just purchased; as they were hanging out in a back corner - but at the bottom almost all the time.

Thank you for your information on the virus (now I'll know what it is if it happens), and other posts on angel behaviour. Hopefully mine will be as friendly as the one that said they come to the front when he/she approaches the tank!

? - How long does it take them to grow from the inch size. & I'm finding numerous adult sizes for angelfish - how big do they get 3, 6, or 7.5 (mine or zebra & an albino)??

Angels can reach 6-8 inches. Depending on the strains you have, I had my gold angels grow to 4-5 inches at 7-8 months of age and spawn at 8 months.

Yes, it should. You're talking about ventral fins.

that 6-8 " is in body size sans the fins in some cases. angels can get quite large including fins over 11" tall.

hence the tall tank requirements.
they are mid -top level foragers tho they will seach the bottom for food.
ultimately always remember Angelfish are cichids and are very capable of exhibiting cichlid aggression.
some can get quite means. most will recognize you as the feeder and will swim up to greet you when you come into the room.

from the sounds of it you have Domestic Scalare..
btw angels can live over 10 years if properly maintained.

The 4 are now coming out together - yipee! 4th does hide in back by himself a lot, but they`re together now!

Had a couple more questions that I was wondering about:
Flake food, floats till hits filter agitaion then goes to bottom - they are eating some, but not all - is their any food they like that stays afloat?
Do I have to wait to get more fishies or is anytime okay??

And last but most important, when we put fish in tank was very clear, water testing says it's fine, but after 2 days it's gotten cloudy - from the front it doesn't look that bad, but when you look down from the side it's quite cloudy??? :help: Not findng helpful information elsewhere.

I prefer sinking pellets over floating foods any day for my angelfish.

What size is your tank?

I'd suggest posting the water parameters. Were you using API liquid test kit?

My tank is 32 gal Waterhome, temp 77/79, ph 7.5. Using Nutrafin tests.

They are very active now - guess getting over the stress of the move!

Can I ask why sinking food to floating is preferred?

the cloudiness may just be the glass if it is only from some sides did you get the tank used?

You didn't include ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.

Floating foods often cause consequences on their swim bladder such as swim imbalance and while this does not happen a lot in angelfish, it could still be possible.
