Angels and Discus Tank

Do you have plans for a bigger tank?

Very nice looking fish!

Yes but not for these guys. They are doing just fine. The Clowns may get moved to a bigger tank, eventually. I might add a few more domestic Angels there.

This tank has been running since 2001. Right now it's not as heavily stocked before I added the Discus about three years ago. I used to have over 50 Angels in there when it was a pair off tank. Now it's just our favorite viewing tank. There were 6 bigger Altums in there earlier this year which are now in a bigger tank with the bigger Clowns.

wow!! Such beautiful fishies! Not over stocked though? I only have a pair of 5-6" anges in a 37 high and would love to add another pair or a pair of discus but was afraid that would be too much....
They look really great and healthy though :)

Pairs could be a problem. Established breeding pairs of Angels or Discus could do some serious damage to other occupants of a community tank specially when the tank is stocked heavily. I take out any pairs that forms in any of my tanks that has Angels, I don't breed the Discus.

do you think two established pairs would fight?

The odds are not good for a peaceful tank with two established pairs. You may help avoid territorial fights over breeding site it you provide multiple spawning sites. It's really up to the pairs. Some pairs may coexist some won't without fights.

Noce looking! Glad things work for you in just a 55.
