Hi All,

so..... planning the stocking of my 100g bow front. I will be putting all exisitng stock (except Danios) into 100g and wanted a school of 15-20 tetras. I like cardninals but i knnow they will be snacks for my angels when they get a bit older and although they look nice i think it would be cruel keeping them together if they will eventually be on the menu!

Any suggestions of a nice tetra (or other small schooling south american fish) that will be big enough to not be a snack but small enough to have a nice sized school????

thanks
Chaz

really??? cool!
the cardinals at my trusted LFS are plentiful annd they are around 1" in the larger specimens but most are a little smaller - should i try to grow / acclimatise them first so that they are less bite size?

I have 2 x 3" marbles, a 3.5" altum and a 2" altum. They have grown pretty quickly over last 3 months hence why 100g to give them a bit more room.

Small tetras like neons and cardinals are natural prey for angels, they will be eaten at some point.

I'd go with bleeding hearts, serpea (watch them for fin nipping), or black phantoms; pretty much anything with a body that is long and high.

Though... if you were to get neons, you have a nice looking shoal that would act as a school thanks to the angels. The downside to this is that many would die from stress and predation.

thanks for advice
I know it's a little cruel but i do like the idea of a tighter school acting more naturaly.
so next question..... how hardy are cardinals? should i cycle (I will be using bio spira or something like it) with them or use my ever hardy danios for that job?

yeh was planning to use a comercisally available product like bio spira (i read a lot about it but am yet to find it). i would prefer to fishless cycle, I have heard you can do it with a prawn left to rot in the tank???? any advice would be greatly recieved!

I think the bio spira is not really available at all times due to it being live.... with a tank that size, I would sugest the fishless.... there eont be nearly the amount of water going back and forth than you need. Have you seen the fishless cycle sticky? It takes a few weeks to get it to where you need, but I wouldn't have done it any other way.

I'll have a read... thanks for yr help
