Angels and Tetras

I want to get Angels and Tetras.

I was concerned that the Angels would eat the Tetras. I talked to someone at my LFS and they said that Angels would indeed eat the Tetras but if you get the Angels when they are young and small that they won't ever view the Tetras as a food source provided they are raised with Tetras as tankmates

Thoughts?

it depends on what type of tetra you are talking about.

the angels will start to eat tetras such as neons and cardinals as they get bigger, even if the neons or cardinals were there first and they "grew up" together.

Neons and Cardinals are what I want.

I was hoping that the Anglels would be conditioned to not eat them after being around them their entire lives.

if you want neons and cardinals, rams are a better choice to have as tankmates.

how big is your tank and how long has it been set up?

they might be fine for some time then one day someone wants a snack. i have seen takes that the worked in but if you dont mind the $2 snack or how ever much they cost go for it.

If you really really want them (arnt' you the one with the nice 180 gallon?) I would go ahead and get them and like Mgamer says if you don't mind loosing them (don't get too attached and be terribly upset if it happens) then you could try it and if it doesn't work then you gave your angels a tasty snack and if it does then you get what you want.
I didnt' get angels for the very fact I really really like my neons and would rather have neons over angels..

I've tried it, I thought the fact that I had a small angel that he wouldn't eat them. I went from 10 to 5 neons in a weekend. He also took some guppies. But he's worth it, he has more personality and better looks then all the other combined.

About a week or two. Two of them are huge and I guess he's just not that hungry nowadays. He still stalks them, but he has ample opportunity to eat them if he pleases. Good luck, I think it's worth a shot.

I have a built in 135g.

I really like both the Tetras (Neon and Cardinal) and Angels but I am not going to put them together. I have read enough in this thead to prevent me from doing that. I don't want any of my fish to get eaten. What a shame. I think they would have looked great together.

Back to square one I guess. Maybe I'll get a couple of Oscars.
