I realized earlier in the week that 2 of my Angels had a bad case of Camellanus worms. After doing a ton of research I treated with Levamisole HCL at 2 ppm for 24 hours followed by a big water change and gravel vac.

I see no visible worms and they are back to normal feeding, swimming and socializing. I will do another treatment in 6 days and again in 2-3 weeks.

The haven't seen any side effect in any part of my tank. Everybody and everything came through the first treatment unharmed.

I understand there might be a chance of a death in the future due to a worm that hasn't past, but so far so good.

It is easy to know if you observe the fish's anus. Are there red threads protruding abnormally? That's your key to indication that the camallanus is actually present in your tank. Only a few medicines can eliminate them and that includes the levamisole hydrochloride and fenbendazole.
 
First my Angels started to act a strange. They would hide most of the day, were skittish when they saw me and wouldn't eat or be enthused at feeding time. They use to always come to the front of the tank when they saw me and even follow me around the side looking for food. After about a week I saw the hair-like worms coming out. Probably 5 or so each. I don't have pics, but there's a bunch out there. Even a video on You Tube.
 
Good to hear. My Bolivian Rams also had this same thing but, like you, I treated with the Levamisole Hydrochloride and I haven't seen anything since. To "grannylvsfish" heres a good picture of my Bolivian... its kind of gross.

Yeah, it is gross. My wife wouldn't even look.:grinyes:
 
I'm on my second treatment and things are going great. What gets me is the lack of knowledge from the fish stores. There's a place here in Jersey that people around here would know. It shall remain nameless, but I will say that it's "Absolutely" the most expensive place around to buy fish. Anyway, I told them what I have and what I want and their response was that a water soluble med would not work for internal parasites. I explained that the fish can and will absorb the med.....I got the "deer in the headlight look" and he got someone else (who seemed like he had more knowledge) who tried to talk me into Metro and Prazi. I said they won't work......deer in the headlight stare again. I explained about Levamisole HCL and he replied I can only get through a vet and if I buy it online it probably wouldn't be legal. He then informed the other worker to set me up with a bunch of other meds....I replied no thanks. I'll use Levamisole HCL and walked out.

Thanks to this forum and a bunch of other people who took the time to document the treatment of these worms I now have three healthy Angels and a Camellanus free tank. :cheers:
