this is actually one of the breeders at an angelfish site. this is one of his young altums.
I believe the angel was saved with carefully removing the oto.
the oto's defense mechanism is a set of barbules on either side of the gill plates
these are flared when the oto is threatened..actually it is a defense mechaism common on many loricariidae.
I have actually had oto's consumed by adult angels.
