I didn't realize that not all of them had the tentacles. I can see the dwarfs don't seem to have them. I'm going to take back the Angel today and I'll check out the Dwarf Gouramis. How many do you think I could get? 2?
I was just thinking about it and I was wondering if I did have one or two more Angels, would that prevent the Tetras from attacking them? Or would it just cause more problems?
I wouldn't do it. Just more for the tetras to annoy. Gouramis are ok but keep in mind some species of the dwarf gourami are very passive while others are not so they could become an easy target for the tetras too. A female betta sound like a good idea. She will be just aggressive enough for the tetras to leave her alone.
While I like bettas (I have kept them in the past) that isn't exactly what I'm looking for. What species of the Dwarf Gouramis would work, do you think? I really want something colorful that can complement the black/white of the Tetras.
I ended up returning the Angel (which I had gotten from Petco) and I went to an LFS called Aquatic World (a little family owned shop). They were very knowledgeable and I told them what I was looking for and they took me around the shop showing me my options. I decided on 3 Rainbowfish (2 Red Irian, 1 Turquoise) and 3 Clown Loaches. I know the loaches grow large, but the LFS happens to love them and said that if they ever grow too big for my tank they will be more than happy to buy them back. The clowns were a little skittish after the acclimation and they hid for a while, but 2 of them are out and playing with each other. The rainbows are just swimming around peacefully in a little school, and best of all the Tetras are keeping to themselves. Thanks a lot for all the help and advice. I will definitely be frequenting the forum as I know that I can learn a lot from everyone here (and maybe I'll be able to help others out once I have some more experience).
Also, I attached the one clear pic I got of the Angel while I had it for those who are interested.
