I have a 29 High. I would like to put about 3 or 4 small Angels in it. I read that they like lots of swimming space and plants. If I put quite a few small to medium sized plants and left the top half of the tank completly empty for them to swim around in would that be enough space or not? If this is not possible, it's not that big of a deal. I just really like these fish.
If I can't get Angles for this tank, is there any other Cichlid that I can get for it? I know that I don't want Kribs. I was also thinking a small group of Convicts (alone of course :) )

As the angels age and grow larger, a pair of them would be the most I would keep in a 29g.

Convicts will tear or dig up any of your plants. Kribs would be a good option although you don't want them... so perhaps a SA dwarf cichlid such as rams or apistos?

I have done two pairs of angels in a 29. They ended up drawing a sharp dividing line down the middle of the tank. Spent most of their time staring each other down. Who knows if they found it entertaining or stressful to live like that, so I don't know if I would recommend it.

I wouldn't recommend more than 2 Angels in a 29..... and it's sort of pot-luck with that because as they age, they may end up fighting over territory any way dependng on the sex and aggression. The plants are ok, they do like them.... but I've found them to favor sword type plants over anything else (hence their shape)...... Keep in mind that Angels are more "mid-level" fish, meaning they don't look at the area over the plants and decide they'll hang out in that section.....nor the bottom of the tank.
