Hi guys, my female betta who was cured from columnaris last time seems to be developing some weird strain of fin-deteriorating disease- possibly fin rot in severe form for some weird reason- but the edge of her fin is bloody.
She is still eating normally, params are:
Ammoniaa= 0
Nitrite= 0
Nitrate= 5-10
Temp.= 77 F
Thanks for the help guys...
All these betta diseases are beginning to get to me :(

I always used tetra-cycline on my angels when they had fin rot, always worked great. And sometimes a follow up of mela-fix to help the healing process. You always know your in the clear once the fins start growing back!

Good luck!

I would not use melafix on a Betta because some people strongly believe that melafix can kill Bettas.

The manufacturer says that melafix does not harm Bettas and says they have tested it on Bettas with no ill-effects.

I am not sure which I believe but I don't use it, Just in case.

I would recommend trying daily waterchanges to keep the water as clean as possible and no medicine. If that doesn't work then I recommend trying medicine.

Hope she gets better soon:).

I don't know anything about diseases, but either way I hope your betta gets better! I would be so sad if my betta got sick =[

Melafix isn't going to kill your betta outright. Close to everything I've found says that an overdose will kill a betta, but newsflash: overdosing kills things! Save your money for realistic remedies. Melafix is largely useless, IMO.

Melafx contains oils that can prevent a betta from breathing properly. I once put in a 1/4 dose for a betta with mild fin rot and he died within minutes.
Anyhow, for chronic finrot you need to do the daily water changes for awhile and see what that does. If nothing, then some people try lower the temp a bit and seeing how that affects the growth of bacteria. Also, a bit of meth blue may be helpful. When he is fixed up, I would go with some indian almond leaf extract to prevent future episodes.

Can you prove that it was the ingredients within the Melafix that killed your fish? Spontaneous fish death is not proof positive of that claim.

Since I was not doing a controlled study, obviously not and I did not state that is was proof. However, it is worth a warning since enough experienced hobbyists have had problems with it.

i have had good experiences with a product called "Betta Revive" when my bettas had fin rot. it comes in a little fish shaped bottle and i believe it is made by Hikari. it does contain methylyne blue and malachite green, so be careful of anything you don't want stained blue forever!
