Another Dumb Reef Tank Build Thread

The lights are a set of PCs that used to be on a old tank. I have not placed the Corallife MH set on it yet. I'm going to build them into the canopy when I get around to doing that part. I have so much to buy for this new setup I don't know which one takes priority. I will get it all together slowly.

Seriously, decent rock around me is usually closer to 9-12 bucks/lb. They sell crappy LR with no coraline or macro on it for about $5/lb, the stuff that has cured in the back for like 6 months.

9-12$ A POUND!!!!! Wow and I thought I was getting pushed against the grinder. Everyone tells me that California prices are the most expensive for this hobbie back at home in Florida I could get the stuff for like 1.50-2.00 a pound.

Yah, tell me about it. I got base rock (dry, plain old rocks that were one time liverock) for like 3 bucks a pound. I got about 80lbs of dry rock and 20lbs of liverock and just did a sloooow cycle of everything. There was no way I was paying $1000 just for liverock for my 55. If I did it again I probably would have ordered it from Tampa Bay Saltwater.

Ditto here as well.. The last LR I bought from LPS was my coral branch that was 11.50 a lb. I keep on asking them when I'm gonna get my 1oz of gold with the rock...

Well the Air Force has finally given me time off, so I decided to work on the tank some more. The rock work is almost finally cured up so, I put in the sand bed. I still need to add a few more pieces of rock. But I'm trying stay on budget with the Holidays fast approaching and still needing additional equipment. Here are some pictures of the rock, you can see in some places the tie strapes that I have on it holding it together. I will use filler rock later to hide these.

I also got the refugium setup its not what I wanted. I may end up scraping it and getting something else, but for right now it do. Next weekend I have off I will put on the Aqua C Remora protein skimmer and the Halides. The plan is not to start stocking it until I have stable pristine water conditions for 3 weeks straight. Then I will start adding my SPS in. (We will see how long I can go with not stocking it) The only life in the tank right now is two hermits and a very docile mantis shrimp in the sump.
