Another "Enough Filtration" thread

Is 1 AC 110 enough for a 75g heavily stocked, heavily planted?

I had 2 Emp 400's on it and they were great. After reading that Emps aren't the best for planted tanks bc of the heavy oxygen they put out. I am going to put the 2 Emps on my 100g and get 1 more for a total of 3. I have the AC 110 to go on the 75, but will one be ok in comparison to the 2 Emps that were on it? Or do I need to get one more?
The AC 110 being 500 gph and the 2 Emps being a total of 800 gph, that would reduce the flow by 300 gph. But maybe the 800 was over kill in the first place.

Any and all opinions will be appreciated.

I would go with a canister. Are you dosing CO2?

I tend to err on the side of overkill because the manufacturer ratings cite the "maximum turnover". I try to achieve 7-10X (+) turnover on my 55s. Then again, I heavily stock. Having another couldn't hurt and would give you redundancy. If you'd prefer not to add another, just monitor the parameters very closely.

I am a huge fan of over-filtering and this doesn't come close to it. It might be at an "ok" level for me. But like rb says, with a tank this large, why not go canister?

I would agree...too much is better than too little. Im running a RENA XP3 and an AuqaClear 110 (500) and I'm trying to design a wet/dry sump as well.

lol I work at a pet shop and when I try to recommend more filtration than just 0ne 10 gallon filter on a ten gallon tank they look at me like I'm stupid and am trying to make them spend more money! Yes go canister!

if your not adding co2 it doesnt matter. not sure how a ac would gas off les then a emp....

i would go with a canister or at least anothre hob

No CO2. What canister would you recommend in addition to the 110 that is cost comparative?

I too like to heavily stock. I don't really consider it heavily stocking though. i look at it as maximizing the a healthy occupancy.

I have been told by several people and also read in several sites and forums including this one that the Emps are better at oxygenating the water because of the spray bars that they are equipped with. Hence, not the best for a planted tank.

if your not adding co2 it doesnt matter. only reason reason it would matter is if you were adding co2 and it causes it to gas off. no co2=no problem
