Another Fish ID puzzler

yeah... they are way lighter blue

normally acies have yellow fins... but 2 of mine dont-- its a strain of acie that has been around for a while now.. but isnt as common

It's not an acei, I have acei and they head is totally wrong, also acei are typically purple. There is a white tail acei variant, but i have never heard of any other variant of acei. I would like to see a picture of the ones you have. The head of the fish in picture #4 is zebra/ Metriaclima. It's a zebra type and perhaps it is a blue red zebra. I have seen cobalts of different shades of blue it depends on the quality. The one in my avatar is the one I use to have.

I totally disagree on the 4th pic being a zebra

I keep malawis... and I have 3 of those fish

they are Psuedotropheus Acie... I am 100% posotive

Most times I try to make nice with the first post, but '100% positive' makes me laugh.

I keep mainly Rift lake cichlids and that fish in pic #4 is in no way shape or form a variety of Acei.
I've kept Msuli (yellow tail), Ngara (white tail) and Tanzanian Black which also carries a yellow tail.
Now there is also the Acei "Senga Bay" but it is rarely seen in the hobby at this time.

To me your 4th fish looks to possibly be Cynotilapia Afra (clown) the shape and the barring are what makes me think that. I've never seen an Acei with barring of any kind. Also with Malawi cichlids there are a lot of mutts which is also a possibility.

KLGFCG I'm in very south central MI, maybe we could set up a time to come over and look?

Oh Yeah, HI folks and let the flame wars begin

Thorny

The unidentified one is a Brichardii.

All besides the Dempsey are African cichlids.

All the africans besides the Blue one are from Lake Tanganyika. IMO u should get rid of the others & do a Tang setup.

P.S. I also would be interested in the Calvus.... (Mid-Michigan)

I think we need other pics of #4. There are so many varieties of cichlid with the blue coloring it could be a number of fish. ;)

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I think only the yellow one is left unidentified.

1. JD
2. Frontosa
3. Common pleco
4. Blue Cobalt
5. Calvus
6. ????

Here are a couple more pics, if that helps. The fins look Brichardi to me, but I'm not sure about the color being right.

I'm also so thrilled to know that these fish are all so compatible (sarcasm). And in a 60 gallon tank, too. Goody. Hopefully, I can get them into more appropriate homes soon.

This fish is called a Daffodil Brichardi in the hobby. Neolamprologus Pulcher ( or Brichardi depending on whether you accept the new classification ). Large male ( note the nuchal hump ).
