Another fishless cycling question...

Hi, I'm in the process of fishless cycling my q-tank with household ammonia. I read that once you start seeing nitrites you should cut your daily ammonia doses in half. I didn't dose daily, I've been keeping it at approx 5ppm always. Now my nitrite readings are between 0.1 -0.3 ppm, so, does this mean I should start aiming to keep ammonia levels at approximately 2.5ppm until my nitrite spikes?

Thanks in advance.

As one who hates to test his water and who also likes simplicty, I have always used a simpler method for fishless cycling.

simply add 4-5 drops of ammonia per 10 gallons per day until you get a nitrite spike. Once you have nitrites, cut the ammonia back to 2-3 drops per 10 gallons per day until the nitrites disappear. When you get a 0 ppm nitrites reading, you have a fully cycled tank.

You can maintain the cycle, pending the addition of fish, by continuing the 2-3 drops/gallon daily dosing.
