Another newbie alert!

Do NOT use products that alter pH with discus or any fish for that matter. The fluctuation when you do water changes will drive you nuts and is not good for the fish either. It's better to work with what you have and keep fish that are suited for your water conditions if you're not going to buy a RO/DI unit.
 
Oh, I wouldn't buy any of those things so no worries. I think the most I've done when it comes to altering PH is adding driftwood to a tank, and even though the difference wasn't much I was still very nervous. How do RO/DI units work, exactly? Do you have any articles or product recommendations that I can look at? :)
