I really would suspect some sort of problem prior to purchase. Without any thing else to go on, I'd find a different store, and see how it goes. While I appreciate wanting to believe the LFS, they often are not honest about these things, since it costs them money (so does being caught lying, but they don't all see that).

Sorry--I know it's rough. Many of the online dealers mentioned above have a good reputation, and most will provide a gaurantee for live delivery--better than a lot of stores offer.

I think the nemo reference referred to the explosion of interest in marine tanks following the movie, and the resulting willingness of many LFS to offer fish from the movie, even if innapropriate to an aquarium. While clowns are hardy, there were come places offering a clown along with a BOWL to keep them in.

well I have been racking my brain and reading all I can about my deal... I know I am not using the reverse osmosis water mainly cuz i cant afford a filtering unit right now... i was told to use prime to get the unwanted chemicals out of the city water so i did that when i set the tank up..... i do have quite a bit of brown algae on my sand and a couple of the lr i have in the tank but i was also told that was diatom orsomething like that and was natural process and was ok andharmless..... been thinking about breaking down the whole 75 tank andstarting over.... maybe putting in the cleaners in the tank before the fish... maybe that will work better... this is a very confusing and expensive hobby to be in..... everyone has a different idea about how to do it and all of them are right.... just ask them... maybe i will feel better tomorrow... just very frustrated right now.....

Yeah, it can be hard to sort out what's the 'best' way to do things. I started out with crushed coral, and undergravel filter, a wet dry, and VHO lights.

I wouldn't tear the tank down--you've got the rock and sand to the point where they are live, and tearing it down would lose those bacteria colonies. I know it's tough, but this really doesn't sound like anything you're done wrong. Adding some cleaner now will help with the diatoms, and other algaes, and you can monitor them until you feel like adding some fish back in. Sorry.

Sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble.:sad

For the sake of the "empty Tank" feeling toss in a hand full of hermits and some empty shells just a little larger than the crabs ( can get shells at craft store if LFS dosent have them) The kids will get a charge out of watching them check out and change shells . And they'll start to get that diatom under controll. Snails espicallt Mexican Turbos are fun to watch too. And they LOVE diatom.

to update all concerned.... well of all the fish that I lost my two black mollies that were left from the cycle are doing great... Kinda an expensive tank for the mollies but right now they are lovin every min of it.....
