another peacock gudgeon breeding journal

Mine are in a small tank (for lack of more room right now) that is heavily planted and has caves and drift wood and rocks to hide in and they hide and dart around a lot. Hopefully some one can give you more info in different set ups.

6 months old update...

So, I haven't updated here in about 6 months. The last you saw my gudgeons they were just starting to look like mini fish. As they got old enough, I sold off about 80 of them and kept 5 for myself. I thought you guys might want to see what they look like now that they are becoming small adults. A few are showing signs of nuptial humps so I think I have a decent mix of male and female. We shall see. Anyhoo....here ya go...my 6/7 month old gudgeons -

lol...the babies are not ready to breed yet..can't even really tell who is male and female yet. I intend to breed them and raise the fry when they are ready though. You should be seeing second generation fish porn by next year sometime. ;)

I love these little fish! Getting some in a few weeks, cant wait! Not sure if I will try to breed them though. Dont think I'll have the setup for it. We shall see though!

Thanks!! I was very pleased with how this project turned out. When I first started I wasn't sure if I would have many survivors at all. Things went much better than I even expected. It wasn't that easy, as breeding projects go. Mostly because you have to pull eggs and keep movement over them and then have a fry tank ready to raise them in until they are big enough to not be food...which is a LONG time for these guys since they take a loooong time to grow, but it's all pretty worth it IMO.
