Another question, regarding feeding.

We're feeding the basic flakes and supplementing with some freeze-dried bloodworms. I'd like to also add some fiber since we only have plastic plants in there right now. I've tried peas and romaine lettuce.

I'd like to know what else we can try and how to present it. The peeled peas sink and that was the only thing that received any interest but they were a pain to clean up (the Python couldn't get them out.) The lettuce and whole peas floated and were ignored totally. Are there ways to weight this stuff down safely or are there better options?

there are ways to weigh the stuff down.. rubber banding lettuce to rocks is one example.. although you can always buy sinking algea flakes.

also, it depends what kind of fish you have.. some of them wont touch veggies.

i feed blanched zucchini and cucumber. I use a chip clip with a string on it to weigh them down (the chip clip has a rubber coating) and then remove any excess.

what fish are you feeding?

many will be fine with a good flake for getting their fiber needs.
others may require food more specific to their diets.

There are 5 zebra danios, 4 dwarf gouramis and 2 angelfish. I do have one of the chip clips mentioned, that sounds like easy cleanup!

I guess that is something to consider...maybe I'm thinking about this too much. Is there really no benefit to feeding "real" foods vs processed foods like the wafers?

the benefit for me is that I have the "real" foods in my kitchen anyway. I typically focus on feeding them to my inverts though, less my community fish. If they like them, it doesn't hurt but they may like the processed foods more because they have additional ingredients that make them more palatable.
