Anthracite coal for aquariums?

I was reading somewhere on the net that you could use coal in your tanks?Do they mean anthracite coal?I heat with coal and must admit the idea does sound appealing.Any one know?

The coal you are probably refering to is activated carbon.It is used to get rid of medicines,tannins and odors.

Ok then,I have never heard of anyone using anthracite coal,but there are alot more knowledgeable folks here than me.I'm sure someone will come along that is versed on that subject.
