Any advice on homemade tanks?

so you say that if i build myself a 200g tank it would cost me less to buy it?actually i was planning on separating the tank in two . half for a pair or lone jaguar cichlid and the othere half doing somethin else
I am building a 180g and the acrylic alone was $130 CDN and that was substatially cheaper than all the other acrylic supply places in TO

would it be cheaper to make it with plexi and biuld custum braces than to use plywood with epoxy?for 24''12 '' piece of plexi it cost me 10$. maybe using eegular glass? i reaaly dont know what would cost less

If you want a standard tank size, then you can save a lot of money by building the stand and canopy and just buy the tank. Unusual tank shapes/sizes would merit doing it yourself.

Then again there's nothing wrong with just making something; it's rewarding.

I agree with Ras. Unless you were going to build a huge tank say 500g or bigger, it would more than likely be cheaper to build the stand and buy the tank already made, you will probably have less problems that way. ;)
